The ancient Mayan calendar, accurate for more than 5,000 years, comes to an end on December 21, 2012. Even among the Maya, there is disagreement as to what the end of the era will bring. Some expect the birth of their god-king, Kukulcan. Some expect the end of the world.
Four days before the winter solstice that signals the end of the calendar, events that could go either way are taking place. In the Middle East, the demon Vhorrdak schemes to get a nuclear weapon into the hands of Iran. At the same time, a rebel Mayan group in the Yucatan peninsula awaiting the birth of Kukulcan abducts a pregnant woman and her husband, Rebekah and Jonas Sagiev, in an attempt to make the prophecy come true. They are lead by University of Mexico scholar Manuel Patcanul and his sister Diega. Another portent, the Comet Quetzalcoatl, reaches its zenith over the skies of Cancun, bringing to Mexico a curious assortment of internationals who also seek the birth of a king. Vhorrdak’s man Raz Uris is also in Mexico seeking the pregnant woman on Vhorrdak’s orders to kill the baby at the moment of birth. Legends claim it is the only time the king will be vulnerable.
Before long, a final Mayan prophecy appears on the wall within the Pyramid of Kukulcan, triggered by Rebekah’s innocent actions. It reveals the location of the long-lost Book of the Thirteen Gods, which contains details for the end of the era. All parties have reasons to want the Book for their own purposes. Since the prophecy states it can only be found ‘by the favored father’s hand,’ Jonas becomes a pawn in both the battle for the birth of the king and the search for the Book.
There is one final catch only Manuel and Diega know--two human sacrifices are required for the final prophecy to come true. With time running out before the solstice and the fate of the world in the balance, Rebekah and Jonas want nothing more than to keep their son’s birth from fulfilling the prophecy. Others will do anything to make the king’s birth a reality--one of them for the prophesied moment of vulnerability when he can kill the king.

This is the newest book by Tony Perona and because I have read all the others he has written I knew this one would be great. Each one seems to get better and better. I am still waiting for his new one to be published in the Nick Benato series. The neat thing about the Mayan Prophecy was that he kept adding intreague and adventure to each chapter and it flowed smoothly and kept my interest all the way to the end. I do hope there will be a sequal to the Mayan Prophecy.Product details

Engaging characters, fast paced story line and an ending you will never see coming. Steve Berry with a mystical twist!
The Final Mayan Prophecy is a wonderfully woven tale of contemporary life and ancient prophecy. I enjoyed following the powerful force of the prophecy as it works its influence on the cast of characters who come together from all parts of the globe. A grand, fun read! Hoping for a sequel.
An action-filled story that's interwoven very skillfully with historic and current events, this book is filled with twists and unexpected turns. The characters are very easy to relate to as the story plays out in Iraq, Mexico, and Washington, DC, with the end of the Mayan Calendar speeding closer and closer. An enjoyable, engaging read!
