This is a light and clean western, mail-order bride story, involving a financially strapped woman with a child who travels to meet her soon to be 2nd husband. His home is much less than she had anticipated, but she works hard to make the best of the new relationship and her new home. There is a twist towards the end (no spoiler here). Dialogue and descriptions of the home and relationship are realistic, which helps to create a feeling of realism with regards to the time period.This is not a great book, but it is likable if you enjoy such romances, and it's easy to read to completion (which not all of them are).Product details

I ENJOYED THIS BOOK. THE ONLY PROBLEM WITH IT WAS THAT I FOUND.......IT WAS WAY TOO SHORT! KAT'S CHARACTERS GO THROUGH REAL,TRUE LIFE TRIALS. I LOVE THAT SHE PLACES A SCRIPTURE AT THE START OF HER BOOK. I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO READ MORE

This was a story of a young widow 22 years old and her 3 year old daughter who had lost their daddy/husband to a terrible accident. Being all alone in the world, and without income, stunt answers an ad for a mail order bride only to find the new groom less than desirable .clean, dishonest, but she persevered with a promise from God found in Jeramiah 29
I liked the female main character. She was strong and courageous but the male she was paired with was not. I never felt like this was something that could have happened. The biggest reason is "why"? It did not make any sense as to why this man would want a wife. Just did not add up. So it was not the writing I did not like, she is a good writer. It was the actual story itself. Like author but do not like this book!
Clean, but not much of a story...and some obvious inaccuracies. Not unusual that a bachelor wouldn't have nice quilts, however, in a time when the common folk rarely had more than one change of clothing, a pile of clothing is exceedingly unlikely.
It was a good short story and it had some mystery to it that I enjoyed. However, the little girl seemed to be quite accomplished in her understanding and mastery of the language and the duties expected of a youngster.... so it was difficult to really go along with her only being 3 years old. I did enjoyed reading it through to the end though.
I gave this novella four stars. It made me sad while reading it. Everything can me out for the good at the end but I don't like books when people die. Good or bad people, as I've lost to many loved ones in my life. I want to read a happy story. I also felt the characters could've been developed more. Don't get me wrong it was a good book and worth reading maybe it was just my mood today. Go ahead and read it.
Honestly I'm not sure what to make of this book. It began with the familiar mail-order bride plot where this young widow and her daughter head out west to meet a complete stranger. Well things were going, sort of smoothly, until.... the unexpected happens...
The book was a super short read (which was nice) but it didn't leave much time to give a lot of meat to the story, if you know what I mean. I didn't think there was a lot of character development, unless you count the short lived time when they were all becoming friends and starting to feel like a real family. I was able to read through the book in one night but I felt there could have been a lot more to it.
Overall is was an okay read. If you enjoy clean historical western romances and are looking for a short read, you'll probably like this book.
